Rev. Mose Chikw Elected Imo CAN Chairman After Crisis

Rev. Mose Chikw has emerged as the new chairman of the Imo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) following an eight-month crisis that began after the election of Fr.

Gerald Njoku, who failed to secure the required two-thirds majority vote. Njoku received 45 votes, but 38 members withheld their votes, preventing the ratification of the results.

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria intervened, calling for fresh elections, which were held on a Friday at the secretariat. Chikw was the sole candidate nominated and was elected unanimously.

He described the election process as peaceful and emphasized the importance of unity among Christians. Chikw pledged to work closely with various Christian blocs, including the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria and the Christian Council of Nigeria, to advocate for justice and uphold human dignity.

Oluchukwu Nnabugwu, the legal adviser for the association, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful resolution and called for support for Chikw's administration.
