Chaos Erupts in Ondo Assembly Over Speaker's Impeachment

On Thursday, a chaotic situation unfolded at the Ondo State House of Assembly as suspected political thugs invaded the complex, disrupting a planned impeachment move against Speaker Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.

The intruders, reportedly mobilized to prevent the Speaker's removal amid ongoing leadership crises, moved through the Assembly without a clear purpose, causing alarm among lawmakers and staff. Some lawmakers confronted the thugs, demanding their exit, which led to a brief standoff.

It required the coordinated efforts of lawmakers and security operatives to remove the intruders from the premises. Following the incident, lawmakers expressed their dissatisfaction with Oladiji's handling of the situation, warning that the impeachment process, although currently suspended, could be revisited if the underlying issues were not addressed.

Mr. Olatunji Fabiyi, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, stated that the impeachment would proceed, despite claims of misinformation. In contrast, Speaker Oladiji downplayed the incident, asserting that the impeachment issue had been resolved.
