Chelsea FC Fined £10M, Receives Suspended Transfer Ban

Chelsea FC has been fined £10 million and handed a suspended two-window transfer ban after admitting to breaches of the Football Association’s agent regulations linked to transfers completed during Roman Abramovich’s ownership. The Football Association confirmed the sanctions on a Friday, stating that an independent appeal board imposed the punishment after Chelsea admitted multiple violations of FA Rule E1.2 concerning payments made to football agents.

The case emerged following the club's takeover by the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium in May 2022, when the new owners discovered irregularities in historical financial records and voluntarily reported them. The FA charged Chelsea with 74 breaches of FA Rule E1.2, focusing on alleged secret payments to agents during several transfer deals, including those involving Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto’o, and Willian.

The FA concluded that these undisclosed payments breached its regulations. Chelsea's cooperation during the investigation led to the conclusion of the lengthy case, resulting in a suspended transfer ban that will not prevent immediate signings.
