Chisco Group Donates Buses for Inmate Transportation

The Chisco Group has donated two buses to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos, to improve the transportation of awaiting-trial inmates to court. This donation, which coincides with the 70th birthday of Chief (Dr.) Chidi Anyaegbu, Founder and Executive Chairman of Chisco Group, aims to address the operational challenge of inadequate vehicles for court transportation.

The buses can convey up to 100 persons and are intended to enhance the Centre’s ability to transport inmates safely and promptly. Chief Anyaegbu, supported by Chief Obinna Anyaegbu, Managing Director of Chisco Transport Limited and Machine Nationwide Limited, emphasized the initiative's long-term commitment to improving access to justice.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has identified insufficient transportation as a factor affecting the timely disposal of awaiting-trial cases, which currently number over 3,000 at Ikoyi Prison. Chisco Group will also support the maintenance of the buses and monitor their impact on court attendance and case progression.
