Civilians Endure as Russian Forces Approach Druzhkivka

The Ukrainian town of Druzhkivka is experiencing severe impacts from the ongoing conflict as Russian forces advance to within approximately 15 kilometers. The town shows signs of devastation, including burned-out vehicles and damaged buildings, with only a few civilians remaining alongside Ukrainian troops defending the area.

Iryna Litovchenko, a 56-year-old resident, noted that Druzhkivka is part of Ukraine's "fortress belt," a series of strategic towns that Russian forces aim to breach in their pursuit of control over the Donbas region. Despite the ongoing fighting, Ukrainian forces continue to defend the area more than four years after Russia's full-scale invasion began.

The threat from drones has increased, prompting the installation of protective netting over several roads to mitigate risks. Zoya, a 63-year-old resident, expressed her determination to stay in Druzhkivka despite the dangers, selling basic food items outside a damaged market stall.
