Nigeria's CNG Initiative Sees $2B Investment, 300 Centres

The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative in Nigeria has achieved significant milestones, including the establishment of over 300 accredited conversion centres and attracting $2 billion in investments within three years. This initiative was launched after the removal of fuel subsidies to encourage the adoption of CNG across the country.

Initially, there were only one or two conversion centres, but this number has grown to over 300, indicating a rising acceptance of CNG technology among Nigerians. The long queues at CNG refuelling stations reflect increasing demand and present investment opportunities for the private sector.

The National CNG Forum plays a crucial role in coordinating efforts between public and private sectors to enhance the CNG ecosystem. However, there are concerns regarding unqualified technicians performing conversions, which can lead to serious incidents.

The CNG initiative is working with the NADDC to address these issues and promote safe conversion practices among vehicle operators.
