CNG Users in Abuja Face Long Queues and Supply Issues

Motorists in Abuja utilizing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) are experiencing severe difficulties as the number of converted vehicles surpasses the available refuelling stations. Currently, there are about 70 active auto-gas stations serving tens of thousands of vehicles nationwide.

Motorists report spending hours, sometimes overnight, in long queues at these stations, with inconsistent product availability compounding their frustrations. Comrade Chiwendo Ogbonna from the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria stated that the shortage of stations is making CNG use increasingly challenging, affecting commercial drivers' earnings.

Other motorists, including Chuka Ajibo and Chibuzor Evrunobi, echoed similar sentiments, attributing the shortage to inadequate investment by the government and marketers. They highlighted the high costs of conversion and the need for more CNG infrastructure.

Engineer Michael Oluwagbemi, former Project Coordinator of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, noted that the challenges should be viewed alongside the growing investment opportunities in the sector.
