Opposition Divisions May Aid APC Victory in 2027 Elections

Usman Haruna, a leader of the Alliance for Good Governance, has warned that growing divisions within Nigeria's opposition coalition could facilitate a victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The coalition had previously declared full support for the opposition movement but is now reconsidering its position due to recent political developments and defections among key political actors.

Haruna stated that the coalition would amend its earlier position within the next 14 days, clarifying that while they are not completely abandoning the coalition, they will reassess their support based on the outcomes of party primaries. He emphasized that the current disunity among opposition politicians poses a significant challenge to unseating the incumbent government.

Haruna also noted that the trend of division could mirror the outcomes of the 2023 presidential contest, where the opposition failed to consolidate votes against the APC.
