Dismissed Soldier Claims Mistreatment in Detention

Rotimi Olamilekan, popularly known as Soja Boi, a dismissed Nigerian soldier, alleges mistreatment during his detention following his arrest related to a viral video. He was summoned by the brigade without prior explanation, disarmed, handcuffed, and held overnight without being informed of any offense.

His detention was linked to alleged violations of social media regulations. Olamilekan was transferred across multiple military facilities, including Maiduguri and Abuja, and spent five days in handcuffs.

He fell ill during detention and was denied proper medical treatment. After a month, he was released in March 2026, following public advocacy and the #FreeSojaBoi campaign.

The Nigerian Army issued a statement dismissing Olamilekan's claims, stating he was punished for indiscipline and violating military social media policies. They emphasized adherence to a strict code of conduct and confirmed that his dismissal followed due process.
