NCPWD Aims to Raise N70bn for Farm Centers Nationwide

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has unveiled a plan to raise N70 billion to establish farm centers across Nigeria, aimed at empowering persons with disabilities and enhancing food production nationwide. During the inauguration of local planning committees in Abuja, Ayuba Burki Gufwan, the Executive Secretary of the commission, emphasized that the initiative will begin with centers in all six geopolitical zones and expand to all 36 states and 774 local government districts.

The project is designed to provide a platform for persons with disabilities to showcase their agricultural talents and engage in farm-related businesses. Gufwan highlighted that the absence of a stage for showcasing abilities has been a significant challenge.

The primary assignment of the local planning committees will be to mobilize the N70 billion required, with contributions expected from state and federal governments, private businesses, and philanthropists. The initiative aims to lift millions of persons with disabilities out of unemployment and improve Nigeria's food security, drawing inspiration from the Netherlands' agricultural success despite limited land.
