Reps Committee Investigates NCPWD Over Procurement Issues

The House of Representatives Committee on Disability Matters has announced an investigation into the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) following allegations of procurement breaches. Abdullahi Ibrahim, a stakeholder, accused the commission of inflating project costs, undermining trust within the disabled community.

He highlighted concerns that the commission has become a hub of corruption, citing a specific case involving the procurement of point-of-sale machines, where the contract value was allegedly exaggerated to N97 million for 101 machines. In response, Ayuba Burki Gufwan, the Executive Secretary of the commission, stated that steps have already been taken to address the procurement irregularities discovered since assuming office in August 2024.

Gufwan explained that the commission's procurement tender board is reviewing several previously awarded contracts deemed illegal, and a new process is being initiated. Additionally, the commission is decentralizing its operations to establish regional offices in Plateau, Bauchi, Abia, and Oyo states to improve service delivery for persons with disabilities.
