Ihuezeofia Residents Urge Enugu Governor to Intervene

Residents of Ihuezeofia village in Enuogu Autonomous Community, Nkerefi, Nkanu East local government area of Enugu state, have appealed to Governor Barrister Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for urgent intervention in a leadership crisis that has reportedly divided the community since June 2025.

The appeal was made in a statement signed by Chairman Comrade Edeson John Chukwudi, Secretary-General Prof. Kenneth Ogbodo, and Elder Elijah Chukwu.

They accused certain individuals of attempting to impose a preferred candidate as President-General of the community, undermining the will of the residents. The group claimed that Ihuezeofia Village has been marginalized since the establishment of Enuogu Autonomous Community, with no government projects initiated in their area.

They noted that while five of the six villages in the community have had a President-General, Ihuezeofia Village has been denied this opportunity. The residents also expressed concerns regarding the absence of a unified constitution for the community, alleging that different leaders operate under conflicting constitutions.

They previously petitioned Governor Mbah on April 7, 2026, and have yet to receive a response.
