Edwin Madunagu: Celebrating 80 Years of Activism

Edwin Ikechukwu Madunagu, born on May 15, 1946, in Nigeria during British colonial rule, is a distinguished mathematician, journalist, and Marxist theorist. He has been an influential figure in Nigeria's political landscape for over five decades, advocating for workers, students, women, and peasants against oppressive governments.

Madunagu's educational journey began in 1952, attending multiple primary schools and completing secondary education at Okongwu Memorial Grammar School and Obokun High School by 1964. He later studied mathematics at the University of Ibadan, where he encountered Marxist thought that shaped his lifelong commitment to social justice.

He has been a vocal critic of military rule and neoliberal economic policies, facing harassment and detention for his activism. Alongside his late partner, Benedicta Madunagu, he built a political partnership rooted in shared ideals, fighting for women's rights and democratic freedoms.

Madunagu's work has made him a key voice in Nigeria's leftist movements, contributing significantly to revolutionary debates across the country.
