Police Clarifies Role on Roaming Cows in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force, represented by spokesperson Ani Iniedu, clarified that managing roaming cows in the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) is not within their mandate. Iniedu stated that police involvement is only necessary when the animals are involved in offences, such as causing property damage or trespassing.

He emphasized that the responsibility for animal control falls under the Ministry or Department of the Environment. If a cow is reported for committing an offence, the police will investigate the complaint.

This statement comes amid rising concerns regarding the presence of cattle on major roads in Abuja, which poses risks to public safety and traffic. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike previously refrained from commenting on the matter, citing national security concerns, although he claimed to have the capacity to address cow grazing issues in Abuja.
