Nigerians Face Rising Cooking Gas Prices Across States

The cost of refilling a standard 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder in Nigeria has seen significant variation, with some households paying over ₦20,000. Recent market checks indicate that prices depend on location, with Lagos retail outlets charging around ₦1,600 per kilogramme, translating to approximately ₦20,000 for a full refill.

In Abuja, prices range from ₦1,250 to ₦1,650 per kilogramme, leading to costs between ₦15,625 and ₦20,625. Other states, such as Ogun and Osun, show prices of ₦1,200 and ₦1,500 per kilogramme, respectively.

The national average retail price for a 12.5kg refill reached about ₦17,616.94 in September 2026. Factors influencing these prices include depot costs, transportation, distribution, and international energy market conditions.

The disparity in prices means that households in different locations can pay thousands of naira more for the same quantity of gas.
