Mahwel Defends Amupitan Against Dalung's Allegations

Dr. John Mahwel, a member of the Faculty of Law at the University of Jos, defended Prof.

Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), against allegations of academic misconduct made by former Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Solomon Dalung.

Mahwel dismissed Dalung's claims as false and misleading, asserting that they undermine public confidence in national institutions. He highlighted that the issues during the 2009 academic session were due to administrative lapses involving non-academic staff, not Amupitan's actions.

Mahwel noted that Amupitan was not the dean during Dalung's postgraduate studies and emphasized that decisions affecting students were made collectively. He urged public figures to exercise restraint and verify facts before making claims, particularly during politically sensitive times.

Mahwel reaffirmed Amupitan's professional integrity and called for reliance on verified information rather than politically charged narratives.
