Former Nigerian Minister Alison-Madueke Pleads Not Guilty to Corruption Charges in London Court

Former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum, Alison-Madueke, has pleaded not guilty to corruption charges in a London court. The charges against her include accepting bribes and conspiring to commit bribery during her tenure from 2011 to 2015.

The United Kingdom's National Crime Agency formally charged her with accepting bribes over a four-year period, allegedly receiving financial benefits such as cash, chauffeur-driven vehicles, private jet flights, and property refurbishments. Alison-Madueke is accused of accepting bribes in various forms, including school fees for her son and luxury items from high-end retailers like Harrods and Louis Vuitton.

Her defense argues that personal expenses were reimbursed and any properties provided were for official business purposes. Alison-Madueke denies any wrongdoing and claims she received no financial advantage as a result of her position in the Nigerian government.
