Internet Failure Delays Diezani Alison-Madueke's Corruption Trial in London Court

The corruption trial of Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, faced delays in a London court due to internet issues. Alison-Madueke, along with two co-defendants, is accused of accepting bribes during her time in office under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) formally charged her with receiving bribes and luxury benefits in exchange for influencing oil contracts within Nigeria's petroleum sector. The trial, which began with preliminary proceedings, is set to last 10-12 weeks and will involve testimonies, financial records, and property transactions.

Alison-Madueke, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, is alleged to have received cash, luxury items, and other benefits as part of the bribery scheme. The court heard that the benefits included chauffeur-driven vehicles, private jet flights, luxury properties in London, expensive furniture, and payments for household staff and private school fees.

The trial also involves the examination of evidence presented by the two defendants, with proceedings expected to continue in the coming weeks.
