Court Adjourns Atiku's Suit Against Tinubu for 2027 Race

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned a suit filed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar until September 28. Atiku, representing the African Democratic Congress, seeks to bar President Bola Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The case, under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1888/2026, alleges that Tinubu submitted a forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Atiku claims the certificate bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” which he asserts is not Tinubu's correct name, thus questioning its authenticity.

The plaintiffs argue that this submission violates constitutional provisions regarding presidential eligibility and seek an order to prevent Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress from participating in the upcoming election. During the court proceedings, Tinubu's legal representative, Omosanya Popoola, stated he was authorized to represent the President, while Atiku’s lawyer, Joseph Onu, insisted on personal service of documents to Tinubu.

INEC's counsel, Alex Iziyon, urged the court to expedite the case.
