Court Adjourns Samuel Akingboy Burial Suit to March 2026

The Lagos State High Court has adjourned the hearing of a suit concerning the burial of late businessman Samuel Akingboy to March 2, 2026. Justice Atinuke Ipaye renewed an earlier interim order to preserve the deceased's body for seven days, following a motion filed by his widow, Christiana Akingboy, and their six children.

The court restrained the Lagos State Police and the medical director of Lagos Island General Hospital from burying or tampering with the body until the substantive motion is determined. The application, filed on January 29, 2026, sought to maintain the status quo regarding the burial.

The court noted that the dispute involves the rights of the widow and children to participate in the burial. Justice Ipaye emphasized that no steps should be taken regarding the body until the matter is resolved, and any arrangements for burial must not occur without proper legal counsel.

The case has attracted public controversy due to allegations surrounding Akingboy's death, which was initially ruled a suicide after police investigations found no evidence of foul play.
