Court Upholds Dismissal of Ex-JAMB Deputy Director Usman

The National Industrial Court in Abuja delivered a judgment on June 2, 2026, affirming the dismissal of Usman, the former Deputy Director of Finance at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Usman was relieved of his duties in July 2023 due to allegations of gross misconduct.

The court ruled that Usman had been given ample opportunity to respond to the allegations but chose not to appear before the disciplinary committee. Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki Osagha stated that the Ministry of Education had the authority to approve Usman's dismissal, which was valid within the supervisory powers of the governing board.

The court rejected Usman's claims that he was not afforded a fair hearing, emphasizing that he had the chance to defend himself against the misconduct allegations. The court awarded a cost sum of N250,000 against Usman for the suit, which was filed under suit number NICN/ABJ/266/2023.
