Court Orders Osun Government to Reconsider Promotion

The National Industrial Court, presided over by Justice Kiyersohot Damulak, has mandated the Osun State Government to reassess the promotion of Mr. Olabisi Abidemi to Director, Grade Level 17.

The court found that the decision to deny Abidemi's promotion was unfair and inconsistent with the principles guiding public service administration. Abidemi, who joined the Osun State Civil Service in May 2004 and became a Deputy Director at Grade Level 16 in July 2021, had participated in a promotion interview in August 2025 but received no communication regarding his promotion status.

He subsequently filed a complaint after his name was excluded from the list of eligible candidates. The court ruled that the Osun State Government failed to provide adequate justification for denying the promotion, particularly as Abidemi had been on approved leave and had a legitimate expectation of promotion.

The court awarded him N500,000 in costs.
