Court Upholds Reinstatement of Enugu Hospital Chief

On July 9, 2023, Justice E.D. Subilim of the Abuja court dismissed the Federal Government's application to stay the execution of a judgment reinstating Prof.

Mondai Igw as the substantive medical director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu. The Federal Government sought to halt the enforcement of the court's December 11, 2025, ruling, which nullified Igw's removal and mandated his immediate reinstatement until the completion of his tenure, which expires in March 2027.

The court found the application incompetent, noting that it was not filed with a valid notice of appeal and lacked necessary documentation, including a proper proof of payment for filing fees. Justice Subilim emphasized that the application could not stand due to the absence of a competent appeal.

Counsel for Igw, Michael Okori, welcomed the ruling, affirming that the December 11, 2025, judgment remains valid and enforceable.
