Court Bars IGP From Arresting Nedu Wazobia

The Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an interim order preventing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from arresting, detaining, or interrogating popular personality Chinedu Ani, also known as Nedu Wazobia. The order was granted by Justice Dehinde Dipeolu following an application filed by Nedu and five others seeking protection of their fundamental rights.

The court specifically barred the police, Assistant Police Alagbon officer, and others from summoning or detaining the applicants in a dispute related to Metropolitan School of Business management. The applicants claimed they partnered with the respondent in early 2024 for an educational charity initiative but faced demands for a refund of N60 million without justification after a successful fundraising gala.

They alleged harassment and unlawful detention by the police, prompting a motion to declare the police actions as unconstitutional and abusive. The applicants are also seeking N2 billion in damages for the alleged infringement of their fundamental rights.
