Court Convicts Two for Impersonating EFCC Officers

On Thursday, the FCT High Court sitting in Jikwoyi, Abuja, convicted two men, Haruna Mamuda and Sadiq Umar, for impersonating officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court found them guilty on five counts of charges, including criminal conspiracy and unlawful representation, which contravened Section 96 of the Penal Code Act.
The charges stemmed from their actions to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. Both defendants pleaded guilty when the charges were read to them.
Prosecuting counsel R.U. Adagba urged the court to convict them accordingly.
The first convict's counsel, Anamegbumam Innoc, requested leniency, citing the defendant's remorse and family responsibilities. The second convict's counsel, Bemdo Asan, also appealed for mercy, noting no prior criminal record.
Justice M. Zubairu subsequently adjourned the matter until July 22, 2026, and ordered that the defendants remain in EFCC custody.
