Court Declares Jimi Lawal Ogun ADC Governorship Candidate

On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, ruled that Jimi Adebisi Lawal is the authentic governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming Ogun State governorship election. The judgment, delivered by Justice Abiodun Adeyemi, addressed a prolonged dispute within the party regarding its leadership and candidate selection.

The court found that Lawal's emergence complied with the Electoral Act and the ADC constitution, affirming that the primary election producing him was validly conducted and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The court directed INEC to officially recognize Lawal as the party's flag bearer.

Following the ruling, ADC Ogun State Chairman Femi Soluade called it a victory for democracy and emphasized the need for party unity. Lawal expressed gratitude for the ruling, describing it as divine intervention and extended an olive branch to his rival, Biodun Collins Ogundipe, advocating for collaboration within the party.
