Court Delays Hearing for Fake Agency DG Adeyemi

On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja returned a fundamental rights suit filed by Adeniyi Adeyemi, the detained self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, for reassignment. The court's decision came after it determined that the 72-hour period for the respondents to show cause regarding Adeyemi's reliefs had not yet expired.

The case was presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who noted that the respondents were served on September 8 and the hearing notice on September 9. Adeyemi's lawyer, Muhammad Abdulaziz, stated that all respondents had been served and were ready to proceed, but the court indicated that the 72 hours had not elapsed.

The court had previously ordered the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to respond within this timeframe. Adeyemi is seeking six reliefs, including his release and access to legal counsel while in custody.

He was arrested in Osun State in July after failing to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge.
