Ebonyi Court Nullifies Council Election Over Constitutional Violations

The Ebonyi State High Court in Abakaliki nullified the election of 13 council chairmen and councillors, ruling it unconstitutional. The court faulted the conduct of the 2024 local government elections by the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for violating electoral laws.

The plaintiffs, Hamilton Ogbodo and Chief Mudi Erhened, sought relief, leading to the court's decision to void the election outcomes. The court ordered that no further local government elections should be conducted in the state until compliance with electoral laws is ensured.
