Court Orders EFCC to Produce Estate Agent for Trial

On Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to produce estate agent Rebecca Omokamo for trial concerning allegations of land fraud and money laundering. The court's order came after Omokamo failed to appear for the resumption of her criminal case.

Her counsel, Christoph Oshomeghi, SAN, stated that she had remained indoors for over 23 days due to fear of EFCC operatives allegedly laying siege to her residence. The EFCC's counsel, Benedict Ubi, countered that Omokamo had placed herself under self-imposed house arrest following a court's interim forfeiture order regarding her property.

The EFCC accused her of frustrating their efforts to enforce the order and of traveling outside the court's jurisdiction while on administrative bail. The case involves allegations of fraudulently obtaining N500 million from unsuspecting buyers through forged documents.

Omokamo is set to be arraigned alongside her husband, Isaac Yusuf Ishaku, in June 2025.
