INAHURAT Defends Enugu Demolition as Court-Ordered Action

The Initiative Against Human Rights Abuse & Torture (INAHURAT) defended the demolition of structures on Plots 1 and 2, No. 65 Abakaliki Road, GRA, Enugu, asserting it was executed lawfully under a Federal High Court order. Chief Maxwell C.

Ikenna Abanaonu, Managing Director of New Berries Park, claiming the demolition was illegal. Opara stated the operation was supervised by court bailiffs and police officers, emphasizing it followed due legal process.

The properties were allocated to INAHURAT’s clients by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) on August 15, 2022, after all fees were paid. Despite this, Abanaonu allegedly constructed on the property unlawfully, ignoring eviction notices.

The FHA had obtained a court order for eviction, which was enforced by court bailiffs, leading to the demolition. Opara claimed Abanaonu attempted to obstruct the enforcement.
