Parents Petition Ministry Over Principal's Alleged Misconduct

The Concerned Parents of the Federal Government Girls’ College Owerri (FGGCO) have submitted a petition to the Federal Ministry of Education, requesting an investigation into the new Principal, Mrs Gladys Ozoemena Onyeguiri, for alleged high-handedness, extortion, and disruptive policies. The petition, signed by Mrs Clara Ihejirika, highlights concerns over staff transfers that occurred between August 2 and August 20, 2026, affecting several key personnel, including the Vice Principals and Heads of Departments.

Additionally, the petition questions the termination of part-time Mathematics teacher Mr. Mich and the introduction of clearance fees for graduating students, which were previously free. Parents expressed concerns over disciplinary charges imposed on students, ranging from ₦100,000 to ₦120,000, questioning their proportionality and adherence to established disciplinary frameworks.

In response, KingDavid Anokwuru, the PTA's Public Relations Officer, denied the allegations, suggesting that the PTA chairman's unilateral actions led to the conflict with the principal.
