Cross River Governor Mourns Statesman Bamanga Tukur

Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu expressed deep sorrow over the death of Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, who passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 90. Tukur was a distinguished figure in Nigerian politics, having served as the Governor of Gongola State, Minister of Industry, and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2012 to 2014.

In a condolence statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Linus Obogo, Otu described Tukur's death as a profound loss to Nigeria, highlighting his extensive career in public service and business, including his role as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority. Otu acknowledged Tukur's contributions to African enterprise and investment, particularly through his leadership roles in the Africa Business Roundtable and the NEPAD Business Group.

He noted Tukur's familial ties to Cross River State and his significant investments there, emphasizing Tukur's commitment to national development and the economic potential of Cross River.
