Cross River State Denies Paying Cults for Peace

On Tuesday in Calabar, Ekpenyong Cobham, the Commissioner for Information of Cross River State, firmly denied allegations that the state government is paying cult groups to maintain peace. He described these claims as false and challenged those making the allegations to provide concrete evidence, including the identity of the supposed recipients and documentation linking them to the government.

Cobham stated, “I can’t speak into what does not exist,” and urged the public to differentiate between verifiable information and rumors, particularly concerning government spending and security issues. He emphasized that any allegations involving government funds should be substantiated with evidence detailing the source of the payment, the recipient, and the purpose of the funds.

Cobham reiterated the commitment of the state government to provide accurate information on its policies and programs to combat misinformation.
