Man Arrested for Defrauding Woman of N500,000 in Calabar

Udeme Ekpeme, a 39-year-old man, has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly defrauding Mrs. Edemawan Samuel of N500,000.

Ekpeme is accused of impersonating a medical doctor and falsely promising to secure employment for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. The arrest was made by officers from the Uwanse Division in Calabar South following a complaint from Mrs.

Samuel, who reported that Ekpeme collected the money under false pretenses. ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the command’s Public Relations Officer, stated that preliminary investigations confirmed the suspect's fraudulent actions.

Relevant exhibits were recovered during the investigation, and Ekpeme is currently in police custody. AIG Rashid Afegbua, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to uncover the full extent of Ekpeme's activities and identify any other potential victims.

The police assured the public that updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
