Customs Officer Dies in Crash on Ikom-Calabar Highway

Prince Etteng Ise, a 54-year-old officer of the Nigeria Customs Service serving at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area, died in a lone auto crash on September 7, 2026. The accident occurred along the Ikom-Calabar Highway near Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area, as confirmed by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Police Command.

Ise reportedly lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole, causing the vehicle to veer into a bush and collide with a tree. The police statement indicated that the accident happened at approximately 2:56 p.m.

Ise was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Ikom, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary.

The Cross River State Police Command expressed condolences to Ise's family, colleagues, and the Nigeria Customs Service, urging motorists to exercise caution on the highways.
