Police Arrest 20 During Sokoto Protest for Dahiru Barewa

The Sokoto State Police Command arrested approximately 20 individuals in connection with a protest on Monday, which demanded the release of Dahiru Barewa, who is currently detained under a court order. The protest escalated into violence, with some youths reportedly attacking security personnel and attempting to forcibly secure Barewa's release.

DSP Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects have been charged to court. The protest caused significant tension in Sokoto metropolis as demonstrators blocked roads.

The unrest was linked to allegations against Barewa, who is accused of threatening to kill Islamic scholars Sheikh Musa Ayyuba Lukuwa and Malam Murtala Bello Assada, stemming from videos in which he allegedly made threats. The police intervened to prevent further escalation and urged residents to address grievances through lawful means.

Normalcy has since returned to the affected areas, with security personnel remaining vigilant.
