Customs Service Reforms Earn Praise from Revenue Group

The Revenue Monitoring Group of Nigeria (RMGN) praised the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its strategic transformation in trade facilitation, border security, and technology adoption under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. In a statement issued in Abuja, RMGN highlighted the shift from manual processes to digital operations, enhancing transparency and efficiency.

The implementation of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) and the B’Odogwu platform was noted for reducing human interference and expediting cargo clearance. RMGN also acknowledged NCS's collaboration with military and security agencies to combat smuggling and illicit activities.

Furthermore, Dr. Adeniyi received commendation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the World Customs Organisation Council sessions in Brussels on July 3, 2026, where he was re-elected as Chairperson.

RMGN reported significant trade figures for 2025, with total trade reaching ₦194.94 trillion and exports increasing by 219.5% to ₦136.65 trillion, attributing these successes to reforms rather than duty increases.
