INEC Registers Over 1.5 Million Nigerians in 7 Weeks

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported that 1,565,873 Nigerians successfully completed voter registration as of June 26, marking the end of the seventh week of the ongoing Phase III voter registration exercise. This figure includes 620,933 citizens who registered online and 944,940 who registered physically.

The statistics remain preliminary pending comprehensive data cleaning. Kano State recorded the highest number of registrations at 118,207, representing 7.55% of the national total, followed by Lagos with 78,360 registrations (5%) and Delta with 76,395 registrations (4.88%).

The gender distribution indicates that female registrants accounted for 821,276 (52.45%) while male registrants totaled 744,597 (47.55%). Youth aged 18-34 dominated the registrations with 1,082,985 (69.16%), while students formed the largest category of new registrants at 384,093 (24.53%).

The voter registration exercise is temporarily suspended in Ekiti and Osun states due to the recent governorship elections, in compliance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022. INEC urges eligible citizens yet to register to do so via their online portal.
