INEC Registers 2.4 Million Voters, Kano Leads CVR

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported that 2,436,275 Nigerians successfully completed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as of July 10, 2026. Kano State recorded the highest number of registrations at 182,749, followed by Edo State with 121,554 and Lagos State with 114,983.

Women comprised 52.65% of new registrants, totaling 1,282,831, while men accounted for 47.35% with 1,153,444. Young people aged 18-34 represented the largest demographic, with 1,682,962 registrants, making up 69.08% of the total.

The exercise also saw 8,326 individuals with disabilities register. INEC disclosed that 252,911 applications for voter registration transfers and 91,830 requests for permanent voter card replacements were processed.

The CVR exercise was extended by two weeks to July 24, 2026, to allow more eligible citizens to register ahead of future elections. INEC's Chairman, Mohan Kudu Haruna, announced the introduction of an online self-service option for first-time voters.
