Nyong Wins Silver in Women’s 48kg Weightlifting

At the Commonwealth Games, Nigerian weightlifter Nyong achieved a silver medal in the Women’s 48kg category, finishing with a combined lift of 168kg. Nyong's performance included a best lift of 75kg in the snatch, placing her third behind India’s Mirabai Chanu Saikhom, who lifted 85kg, and Malaysia’s Irene Jane Henry, who lifted 77kg.

In the clean and jerk, Nyong lifted 93kg, which allowed her to surpass Henry by a single kilogram, securing the silver medal for Team Nigeria. The gold medal was claimed by Mirabai Chanu Saikhom of India, who set a Commonwealth Games record with a total lift of 190kg, while Irene Jane Henry from Malaysia earned the bronze with a total of 167kg.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria’s men’s 3×3 basketball team lost to Scotland with a score of 21-16, leaving them with a 1-3 record in the tournament.
