Cyber Attacks Threaten Nigeria's 2027 Election Security

On Tuesday, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), the Minister of Defence, addressed the evolving security threats to Nigeria's elections, highlighting cyber attacks as the greatest concern. Speaking at the 8th edition of Blueprint Newspapers Public Lecture/Impact and Awards, he was represented by Major General Olufemi Akinjobi (Retd.), his Special Adviser on policy and research.

Musa noted that the digital revolution has transformed the information environment, creating vulnerabilities alongside opportunities. He emphasized that threats to elections now extend beyond physical security to include cyber resilience and the defense of democratic legitimacy.

Musa pointed out that sophisticated technologies can produce misleading content that can influence public perception rapidly. He called for a national project to prepare for the 2027 General Elections, focusing on strengthening democratic resilience and ensuring citizens can participate safely.

Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), echoed the need for early preparations to safeguard election integrity.
