Darts Authority Bans Transgender Women from Competitions

The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has announced an immediate ban on transgender women from participating in women's dart tournaments. This decision follows a comprehensive review of the DRA's transgender policy, which began in 2025 and included legal advice and scientific analysis.

The new rule states that only biologically female players are eligible to compete in women's tournaments, aiming to maintain fair competition regardless of biological sex or legal gender identity. The DRA emphasized its commitment to inclusivity while recognizing the need for changes to ensure fairness.

The ban directly impacts players like Noa Lynn van Leuven, who became the first transgender woman to compete in the PDC World Championship in 2024. In response to the new rule, van Leuven announced her retirement from women's darts, stating that she had no choice due to the ban.

The DRA's decision reflects a broader trend among sports governing bodies, including similar actions by the World Darts Federation and the International Olympic Committee regarding transgender athletes.
