Presidency Warns Davido Over Election Social Media Posts

During an interview on Symfoni TV aired on August 26, 2026, Temitope Ajayi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, commented on the actions of singer Davido during the August 15 Osun State governorship election, which was won by Davido's uncle. Ajayi asserted that Davido would have been arrested for similar social media posts in countries such as Rwanda or Ethiopia.

He characterized Davido as more than a passive observer, labeling him an active member of the campaign structure with a vested interest in the election's outcome. While acknowledging Nigeria's constitutional guarantee of free speech, Ajayi criticized some of Davido's posts for containing unverified claims against senior government officials, including President Tinubu and the Senate President, arguing that such allegations pose public safety risks.
