Bature Warns Defectors to Stop Identifying as PDP Members

Umar Bature, a prominent figure in the People's Democratic Party (PDP), issued a warning to former party members who have defected, stating they should no longer identify as PDP members. This statement was made during a state congress in Sokoto, where he emphasized that defectors should cease attending PDP functions and presenting themselves as party members.

Bature highlighted the importance of focusing on strengthening the PDP ahead of future elections, dismissing suggestions that rival factions within the party were working towards progress. He noted that the biggest challenge for the opposition remains internal disunity.

The congress, supervised by Ilo Attahiru, resulted in the dissolution of the state caretaker committee and the election of Hayatu Tafida as the new state chairman, with Ahmad Fada elected as state secretary. Tafida pledged to unite party members and work tirelessly for the party's success, while Abdullahi Sokoto, the PDP governorship candidate, called on former members to return to the party, emphasizing a focus on political issues rather than personal attacks.
