Defence Minister Updates on Tinubu Coup Plot Suspects

On Thursday, Defence Minister Christopher Musa provided an update regarding the suspects arrested for an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu's administration during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. Musa confirmed that the suspects have been taken to court and are currently facing legal proceedings.

He asserted that the investigation revealed the coup plot was genuine, with the suspects intending to seize power, primarily motivated by financial interests rather than a clear political ideology. Musa suggested that some suspects may have been influenced by the privileges enjoyed by past military regimes.

He emphasized that there is no justification for attempting to overthrow an elected government through force. Furthermore, Musa indicated that the investigation has expanded beyond the initially arrested military officers to include individuals who had access to sensitive areas around the Presidential Villa in Abuja, examining those who may have provided support to the plotters.
