Defence Minister Confirms Genuine Coup Attempt Against Tinubu

Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, confirmed the authenticity of a coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu, describing the plotters as misguided individuals motivated by personal ambition rather than political grievances. In an interview, Musa stated that the plotters lacked a strong justification for their actions and were partly influenced by nostalgia for past military rule.

He expressed concern over a colonel who allegedly involved junior officers in the scheme, warning that these young officers might face lasting consequences. Musa mentioned that investigations by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are ongoing, with a focus on ensuring that no one is charged without sufficient evidence.

Some individuals linked to the plot, including staff at the Presidential Villa clinic, are under investigation, and several suspects remain unaccounted for. Musa called on armed forces members to remain loyal to Nigeria's democratic order, emphasizing the importance of working through democratic challenges rather than resorting to military governance.
