FG Urges Media to Combat Terrorism and Promote Unity

During the Arewa Media Summit held in Kano, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris called on journalists and social media influencers to deny publicity to terrorists and bandits. He stressed the media's critical role in countering violent extremism and promoting national unity, particularly as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Idris noted that democracy thrives when the government remains transparent and citizens are engaged. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, also spoke at the summit, emphasizing the need for responsible media practices to avoid spreading misinformation that could create division.

He disclosed that 100 members of the APC social media community were trained ahead of the summit. The event attracted journalists, filmmakers, digital content creators, and policymakers from across Northern Nigeria to discuss the theme of government accountability and responsible media ethics.
