President Tinubu Approves Major Military Salary Increase

Defence Minister General Musa Rtd commended President Tinubu for approving a significant military salary increase, effective from September 1, 2026. The new salary structure will raise salaries by 30 to 80 percent for approximately 250,000 military personnel.

According to a statement from Leah Katung-Babatunde, the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, this approval reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of military personnel. The salary increases prioritize frontline personnel, with Privates to Staff Sergeants receiving an 80 percent increase, Warrant Officers to Colonels getting a 50 percent increase, and senior officers from Brigadier General to General receiving a 30 percent increase.

The new package will elevate the Armed Forces’ annual personnel expenditure from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion. General Musa urged military personnel to respond to this intervention with enhanced professionalism and operational commitment, emphasizing the need to intensify efforts in neutralizing security threats and protecting Nigerians.
