He emphasized the need for a reform-minded appointee, suggesting candidates who possess the firmness of former governor Nasir el-Rufai but are also open to criticism.

The candidates he proposed include Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Seyi Makinde, and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the current interior minister. Adeyanju's post received mixed reactions online, with some defending the current minister and others questioning the quality of his suggested candidates.
