Delta Governor Calls for Collective Action Against Crime

On Wednesday, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori delivered a keynote address at the Delta State Security Summit 2026, held at the Government House in Asaba. He urged for a collective effort to combat crime, including terrorism and kidnapping, stating that security should not be the sole responsibility of government security agencies.

The summit, themed "Security: Collective Responsibility," brought together security chiefs, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society groups, youth, women organizations, and members of the business community. Oborevwori highlighted that protecting lives and property is fundamental for development, noting that no society can prosper in an atmosphere of fear and instability.

He disclosed that the state administration is committed to strengthening its security architecture through partnerships with security agencies and the community. Additionally, he revealed plans for the construction of a divisional police headquarters in each of the 25 local government areas in preparation for the eventual establishment of a state police.
